Seven trainee solicitors join Wilkin Chapman

Seven aspiring solicitors have recently joined our 2022 legal training scheme.

We’re delighted to welcome Caitlin, Hannah, Harry, Jacob, Rebecca, Reece and Sophie to Wilkin Chapman as they embark on our two-year training programme which will give them the skills, experience and knowledge required to qualify as solicitors.

Open to new applicants each year, the programme is split into four six-month placements to allow trainees to gain experience in a wide variety of areas.

The 2022 intake of trainees is made up of seven young people from across Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Norfolk.

Caitlin Bellamy

Caitlin grew up in Cleethorpes before studying at the University of Nottingham where she obtained a first class BA Law degree. Caitlin then gained a distinction in the LPC LLM from the University of Law.

Caitlin enjoys problem solving, which should stand her in good stead for a career in law. Talking about what attracted her to Wilkin Chapman’s training scheme, Caitlin said:

“Wilkin Chapman’s reputation as the biggest and best in the region drew me to the firm. I thought that training here would therefore enable me to become the best solicitor I can be in the future.”

Hannah Jones

Hannah grew up in Newark and received a First in BSc Physiotherapy from Cardiff University before specialising in law with a GDL and LPC from BPP London.

A keen runner, she has just completed her second London Marathon! Speaking about why she wants to pursue a career in law, Hannah said:

“Law is a fast paced, client-facing profession which pushes you to keep improving. I like the challenge of learning something new every day in my career and building strong professional relationships with co-workers and clients.”

Harry Fox

After attending Malet Lambert School in Hull, Harry went on to study at Leeds Beckett University where he gained an LLB Law Degree, before studying towards an LPC and a Master of Laws (LLM).

Away from work, Harry is a keen football player and supports his local rugby league team, Hull Kingston Rovers. When asked about his first impressions of the firm, Harry said:

“Everyone here is friendly and approachable. It is refreshing that even in such a busy working environment, someone is always willing to lend a hand.”

Jacob Houltby

Jacob first experienced Wilkin Chapman during a work placement whilst studying towards his A Levels at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Alford, Lincolnshire. He then undertook a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) before completing a Diploma in Legal Practice at Northumbria University.

A thrill seeker away from work, Jacob once did a bungee jump off the side of a viaduct in North Yorkshire. Speaking about his career ambitions, Jacob said:

“My career aspirations are simple, to ensure I maximise and fulfil my potential to allow me to progress as far as possible in my current career path. I believe that ensuring I commit myself fully on a day to day basis is the best way to ensure I achieve future goals and success.”

Rebecca Jex

Rebecca Jex was born in Grimsby and graduated with a Bachelor of Law (LLB) with Clinical Learning from Lancaster University before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Law in Leeds.

A keen trumpet player, Rebecca toured the USA with a band for 3 months in 2017, taking part in the Drum Corps International competition. Rebecca was attracted to working for a local firm, she said:

“Having grown up in Lincolnshire, I realised from an early stage in my time at university that I wanted to work locally when I graduated. Wilkin Chapman is the leading law firm in Lincolnshire and has a very prestigious reputation in the area. I wanted to be associated with a firm that understands the real demand for services in the area and seeks to provide as many people as possible with the advice and assistance they need.”

Reece Townsend

Having grown up in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, Reece went on to study at the University of Lincoln, achieving first class honours in LLB Law before receiving a Distinction in LLM Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Trent University.

As part of his undergraduate degree, Reece had the opportunity to study abroad in Augsburg, Germany for a semester. Speaking about joining Wilkin Chapman, he said:

“I was attracted to Wilkin Chapman as they have lots of offices throughout the county and good links to the local area. The work is varied and all my colleagues are great. I am looking forward to putting my academic knowledge into practice and I want to be able to help others with their legal issues.”

Sophie Emms

Originally from Doncaster in South Yorkshire, Sophie did her LLB (Hons) degree at the University of York before achieving a distinction in her LPC LLM degree at BPP Leeds.

Sophie is a twin, and her twin brother is currently undertaking training to become a chartered accountant. Talking about why she was attracted to career in law, Sophie said:

“I like that each day is different, and you never quite know what is going to happen. I want a career that is challenging and fast paced, and as the law continues to shift and change there will always be new things to learn. I also enjoy working with the firm’s clients, as they come from all walks of life and all have a different story to tell.”
