our corporate social responsibility

Our staff and partners alike support the community in many ways - from spearheading charity fundraising campaigns, to working voluntarily as a college or school governor to taking part in charity fun runs and gaining sponsorship.

Our contribution

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the term that describes how organisations positively contribute to the well-being and development of the community in which they operate.

Over the years, we have acted for private clients and those who are publicly funded. We have also contributed to the success and development of the community by acting for companies and large organisations whose activities in turn provide employment, opportunity and contribute to the economic health of the region.

Our commitment takes on many forms from pro bono advice and taking active roles in organisations to community initiatives. These are some of the areas we support:

  1. Reading project

Members of staff from our offices have attended local junior schools in disadvantaged areas one lunchtime per week to listen to children read.

  2. Community projects

Partners and staff have taken part in a number of community-based projects which require them to work as a team to plan, organise and control tasks, including preparing a three-course meal for 32 guests at Harbour Place in Grimsby. The meal was created, cooked and served by members of staff from our Grimsby office and raised £1,100 for the charity.

Other projects have included renovating community indoor and outdoor spaces, for charities and schools and more.

  3. Charities

The firm makes regular financial contributions to various local charitable organisations surrounding all of our offices as well as holding a number of events throughout the year, such as bake sales, raffles and dress down days.

We have a long and solid history of supporting the Lincolnshire Rural Support Network, a charity supporting Lincolnshire's rural and agricultural community. The focus of their work is the farming and rural community, many of whom live in isolated locations and experience problems associated with their physical and mental wellbeing. Their service is a tailored mix of advocacy, mental and physical health screening, signposting, practical and emotional assistance where clients are supported until the problem is resolved.

Several the firm’s partners support this important network through trustee positions and volunteering on specific initiatives. We are a key sponsor at their annual dinner celebrating the difference their interventions have made on people’s lives living in rural communities.

  4. Pro bono

As a firm that has been established over 120 years, we have developed long standing connections and provided pro bono support to many of the well-established voluntary, third sector and community organisations that surround our regions. We believe in using our expertise to give back to the communities in which we live and work and therefore offer free legal advice where we are able.

We actively support staff to take positions as governors and trustees in local community education establishments and third sector enterprises, as we feel that this will enhance their skillset for situations that they will encounter in their daily lives as they progress along their career paths.

  5. Green credentials

We are championing such initiatives and have reduced the amount of paper we use, preferring electronic methods for payment and communication. We are in the process of establishing a green committee to be an advocate of eco-friendly practices and processes.

We encourage car-sharing and have installed secure bicycle sheds for employees who wish to cycle to work.

Printed versions of marketing materials are ordered in smaller quantities with web versions more readily available, so unused copies are not a waste of resource.

The Humber region is at the forefront of green and renewable energy and we are a board member of the newly established network Humber Marine Renewables, this organisation was a product of Grimsby Renewable Partnership and Team Humber Marine Alliance formerly merging in which we provided the necessary regulatory advice and guidance.
