Commercial disputes specialist joins our Beverley team

Joshua Wick, Commercial Disputes Solicitor

A newly qualified solicitor has joined our firm’s expanding dispute resolution team in Beverley.

Joshua Wick joined our firm last month and has his sights set on pursuing commercial disputes as his specialism.

After being awarded a first class LLB law degree from De Montfort University in 2018, Joshua obtained a distinction for the Legal Practice Course in 2020, before completing his training contract at a firm in Manchester in 2022.

Joshua, solicitor in the dispute resolution team, said:

“My fiancée is from East Yorkshire, so we moved here during the pandemic while I was working from home. We liked it so when I qualified, I looked for a job in the local area, and Wilkin Chapman really stood out.

“I knew it was the biggest law firm in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, which was a big factor in me joining. I didn't want to go to a small firm - I wanted to go somewhere that has growth ambitions and plans for the future, which I know Wilkin Chapman does. They do a lot of work in commercial disputes, which is the area of law I want to focus on, so it was my first choice, and fortunately enough I was successful.

“The dispute resolution team is growing in Beverley. It's a great team, everyone's really friendly and approachable.”

In his previous role, Joshua worked as a litigation executive which built on his commercial litigation knowledge gained at university. He said:

“Even though contracts should always be drafted well, they very often are not, and that is where a lot of commercial disputes arise. The Covid-19 pandemic is still having an impact as well, as a lot of companies entered into finance agreements and bounce back loans that are causing issues for some. But there will always be commercial disputes due to the nature of doing business.”
