Law firm to 'hold court' at Humber Business Week with mock tribunal event

The law firm, which has an office in Beverley and nine others across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, will hold the free event in Court 1 at Hull’s Guildhall on Wednesday 8 June. The unique courtroom setting will allow attendees the opportunity to experience the realities of how an employment law tribunal operates.

Led by Teresa Thomas, head of employment law and partner at the firm’s Beverley office, the mock tribunal will provide attendees with a clear understanding of the tribunal process and the legal issues involved. Over 90 minutes, the event will include an overview of how parties present a case, how witness evidence is given, a cross-examination of witnesses and examples of when a judge might intervene, before the Judgment itself.

Wilkin Chapman has designed the event for anyone with staff management responsibilities, including small business owners, line managers and union officials.

Commenting on the mock tribunal, Teresa Thomas, partner at Wilkin Chapman solicitors, said: “The prospect of attending an employment tribunal can be daunting. Unless you have experienced one before, it can be difficult to imagine what goes on and how evidence is presented to the judge and panel.

“We’re aiming to open up the experience to equip attendees with real insight and knowledge to demystify the process, should they require it in the future.”

The event will open at 8am on Wednesday 8th June for registration and refreshments, and will begin at 8.15am, with a 9.30am finish.

Those wishing to attend the event are advised to book quickly; there are only 65 places available, limited to two tickets per organisation and to employees either in HR, or with staff management responsibilities.

Further information and tickets are available via the Wilkin Chapman Eventbrite page. Humber Business Week runs from 5-10 June 2016; more information can be found at www.humberbusinessweek.co.uk
