In the run up to Christmas, staff at the Grimsby offices of Wilkin Chapman solicitors have been collecting tins of food for the firm's charity ‘tin drop-in.
The 'drop-in' saw over 300 tins of food ranging from Fray Bentos pies, baked beans and pease pudding to custard and rice pudding. The tins were donated to the Harbour Place Day Centre, Grimsby, on Monday 14 December and will be used to help provide meals for homeless people over the coming festive period.
Jane Eatock, one of the firm's partners, wanted to try and do something the help the street homeless in Grimsby, having been alerted to their plight by a man who had been sleeping in the doorway of one of the firm’s offices in recent weeks.
"Having been in contact with the fantastic Outreach workers at Harbour Place, who managed to find accommodation for the man we had been trying to help, we became aware just how easily people can find themselves in difficult circumstances and how little funding is available. Local charities that help the homeless do all they can but are overwhelmed with the numbers they are supporting,” said Jane.
Jane, along with senior partner, Mark Carlton, delivered a mountain of tins to Dave Carlile, project coordinator, at Harbour Place Day Centre in Grimsby.
The day centre, established in 1996, aims to help the homeless and vulnerable in Grimsby. With areas of the town ranked in the top 1% of the most deprived wards in the country the charity works extremely hard to support these people.
