Nicola Evans is a senior associate in the employment law team based in our Beverley office.
Qualifying as a solicitor in 2011, Nicola has a wealth of experience advising on all aspects of employment law for both employers and employees.
Her work involves a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious matters. She has acted for organisations of all sizes across multiple sectors. She provides a wide range of HR advice including managing absence, holiday pay issues, and disciplinary proceedings. She also assists in dismissing an employee, including negotiating exits and settlement agreements.
She regularly reviews and drafts employment contracts, policies, and procedures for clients. As part of this, Nicola has become particularly adept in social media-related matters. She has advised several clients on how to deal with social media misuse as well as drafting appropriate policies and guidelines.

TUPE
Nicola works with the firm’s corporate and commercial teams to provide specialist advice on the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 1998 (TUPE).
She helps to review and prepare employment-related documentation as part of wider due diligence for companies undertaking both share and asset purchases.
Whistleblowing
In a recent case highlight, Nicola successfully represented an employee in a complex automatic unfair dismissal, whistleblowing, and detriment claim, whereby the protected disclosure was made to a third party.
Employment Tribunal representation
Nicola frequently represents her clients throughout the employment tribunal process, expertly guiding them through every step.
She advises her clients at each stage of the process, from Acas early conciliation and submitting a defence through to preliminary hearings and witness statements, before joining them in the final hearing (as required) to secure a successful outcome.
Specialist sector advice
From food manufacturers and retailers to schools and academies, she advises clients from a wide range of sectors. She adapts her approach to suit her client’s needs, taking the time to get to know the business to provide holistic, efficient, and commercial advice.
Examples of her previous work include advising on cold working conditions and night working in the context of the Working Time Regulations for manufacturers, tip allocations and zero-hour contracts for clients in the leisure sector, and on-call and sleep-in night shifts in the regulated care sector. She has also helped with including additional agreed terms in the Burgundy book when advising schools and academies.
