Richard is a Partner at Wilkin Chapman who works in the Employment department at our Grimsby and Lincoln offices.
Richard advises employers and employees on all aspects of employment law, including unfair dismissal, redundancy, wrongful dismissal/breach of contract, sex, race and disability discrimination, equal pay, and TUPE. Richard has dealt with a number of high-profile cases in the Employment Tribunals and appeal courts, and several of his cases have been reported in the legal press. Richard has particular expertise in handling trade union and collective disputes.
Richard also has significant experience in Sports law and holds a Masters’ degree in Sport Law and Practice from De Montfort University in Leicester. Richard has advised and represented players and clubs in relation to all manner of disciplinary and regulatory issues and has also drafted and advised on various commercial contracts relating to the sports industry, including sponsorship agreements, image rights agreements, and retail and catering agreements. Richard is a former Non-Executive Director of the British Olympic Association Remuneration Committee and Trustee of Lincolnshire Sport (now Active Lincolnshire), and has also served as a member of the judicial panel for the Amateur Swimming Association (now Swim England) and England Golf, dealing with disciplinary disputes and appeals.
Richard received a BA Hons degree in Politics and International Relations from Lancaster University in 1995 and went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Law before qualifying as a Solicitor in 1999.
Richard has previously worked for two other law firms in Lincolnshire and spent twelve years as a Partner in his last firm specialising in Employment law. He went on to work as a Commercial Solicitor for Sunderland Association Football Club before moving to Lincoln City Football Club where he spent two years working as Head of Legal and Football Administration. Richard joined Wilkin Chapman in May 2019.
