Jonathan qualified as a solicitor in 2008 following a two year training contract with the firm. He became a senior solicitor in 2012 and then partner in 2015.

Jonathan undertakes a diverse range of litigation and dispute resolution for both claimants and defendants with particular expertise in the following:-

Wills & Inheritance Disputes

Jonathan leads Wilkin Chapman's Wills & Inheritance Disputes team. He has over nine years' experience in representing claimants, beneficiaries and estates in a range of complex contentious probate and trusts claims. He has particular expertise in claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family & Dependants) Act 1975, claims relating the validity of wills and removal of trustees and executors. He advises in relation to both modest estates involving complex factual or legal issues and multi-million pound disputes relating to substantial assets and landholdings.

Commercial Disputes

Jonathan advises companies and individuals in substantial commercial disputes, from shareholder and partnership disagreements to breach of warranty claims and recovery of commercial debts. He supports the firm's Corporate & Commercial department in respect of a variety of contentious and non-contentious scenarios, including advising as to intellectual property right protection and enforcement.

Agricultural Property

Jonathan supports the firm's position as regional panel solicitors for the National Farmers' Union in the East Midlands and advises the farming and land-owning community in a broad range of contentious matters including flooding, boundary disputes and land rights, contractual disputes and disputes relating to the renewables sector.

Military & Personal Injury

Jonathan has forged a niche practice in complex personal injury claims, particularly on behalf of members and former members of the Armed Forces, including actions relating to Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome and Non-Freezing Cold Injury. He also advises servicemen respect of claims for non-payment of pensions and professional negligence arising from advice in this regard.

Data Protection, Privacy & Defamation

Jonathan has a particular interest in the protection of data and privacy rights, including bringing and defending claims for breach of confidence, breach of Data Protection Act 1998 and misuse of private information. Jonathan also acts in matters relating to defamation and harassment.
