Get to know our new paralegal apprentices

Five of Wilkin Chapman's new paralegal apprentices from the 2024 cohort against a blue background

Each September we welcome new paralegal apprentices to our growing team across our Grimsby, Lincoln, Beverley, and Louth offices.

Our apprenticeship programme reflects our commitment to fostering emerging talent and offering real-world, hands-on experience in the legal profession.

The new apprentices gain valuable knowledge and skills as they work alongside experienced legal professionals in a variety of departments across our network of offices. This programme highlights our focus on providing career development opportunities and creating pathways for future success in the legal sector.

Meet the apprentices

Our latest cohort of apprentices includes Mya Bhutta, Madison Ricketts, Megan Riley, Maisie Wright, Maizie Moore, Samuel Gibbons, Pippa Ramsay and Alfie Brisby. Some of them share their experiences, motivations, and advice for aspiring paralegals.

Lisa Boileau, partner and head of Wilkin Chapman’s private client division, said: “Our apprenticeship programme is designed to cultivate talent by offering real-world legal experience, mentorship, and opportunities for career growth. We’re thrilled to welcome all our new apprentices to the Wilkin Chapman family, and we look forward to supporting their development.”

Mya Bhutta, paralegal apprentice in the debt recovery team at the Grimsby Office said:

“I realised after college that learning in a classroom wasn’t for me. I knew I performed better when I could learn and work simultaneously, so an apprenticeship was the best route for my career in law,” explains Mya, reflecting on her decision to join the programme.

“Wilkin Chapman stood out to me because it is a well-known firm with a strong reputation for career progression. I saw that they offered extensive learning opportunities, with the chance to earn whilst I learn, and after speaking to someone already completing the apprenticeship, I was confident this was the right choice.”

Maizie Moore, paralegal apprentice in the real estate team at the Lincoln office said:

“What stood out for me was the people and culture. In my interview I asked what their favourite part of working at Wilkin Chapman is and they replied, “the people” and I couldn’t agree more.

I‘ve only been a part of the firm for a short time but I’ve got to know everyone in my team and other departments and it’s something I’ve found really special and refreshing to be a part of.”

Samuel Gibbons, paralegal apprentice in the personal injury team at the Lincoln office, said:

When it comes to advice for aspiring paralegals, Samuel suggests: “Always be yourself and showcase what makes you unique. A strong work ethic and relevant experience, even in general administration, will set you apart.”

Alfie Brisby, paralegal apprentice in the real estate team at the Beverley office, said:

“University has never appealed to me. I have always preferred the idea of gaining first-hand experience in the workplace.

“I get to work with experienced legal professionals who guide me in the right direction. They provide constructive feedback, which is essential for growth.”

Alfie’s advice for potential applicants is clear:
“First impressions are crucial. Prepare thoroughly for interviews and demonstrate your enthusiasm for the role. As the adage goes, ‘fail to prepare, prepare to fail.’”

Megan Riley, paralegal apprentice in the debt recovery team at the Grimsby office, said:

“This programme offers hands-on training while providing academic support to deepen my knowledge. No two days are the same. Each case presents unique challenges and opportunities, which keeps things exciting and ensures I am always learning.”
