Divorce

When a marriage breaks down it is heart-breaking and painful for the couple. On top of this, a breakup puts stress on your children, immediate family and good friends.

It has always been our aim to deal with the breakdown of a marriage with empathy and an approach that is fair and pain-free as possible, which is why divorce can only be chosen when all other attempts to fix the marriage have failed. We call this irretrievable breakdown.

Irretrievable breakdown has to be supported by one of five evidential grounds: adultery, unreasonable behaviour, two years’ desertion, two years’ separation with both sides giving their consent to the divorce, or five years’ separation.

Divorce is not a quick process. It can take 4-6 months and your particular circumstances are significant factors on the timeframe. We understand that this can be difficult and our specialist divorce solicitors are with you every step of the way, closing the matter as swiftly as possible and advising you on ways to minimise upheaval and pressure on other family members.

Collaborative Law

When a family breaks down, the added pressures can affect everyone involved. From a child’s well-being and schooling, to the parents’ performance at work - such matters can take their toll in many different ways. Collaborative law is a means of resolving the issues surrounding divorce and separation without the need for going to court. This is achieved through both sides appointing a collaborative lawyer, and with the four of you meeting in person to discuss the situation and work out a mutually satisfactory solution together. With both lawyers present at all times, you can rest assured that a fair agreement will be reached and any children will be spared the stress of appearing in court.

Family mediation

When relationships break down it can be difficult for couples to communicate and talk to each other. If children are involved, it is particularly important for parents and family members to cooperate with each other. Family mediation can help you through this difficult time and help you work out mutually acceptable arrangements for your children, property and finances. Through the mediation process, we can help you clarify issues and reach a solution which is both fair and workable, and which causes the minimum amount of conflict or stress. Our team of expert and qualified mediation lawyers can also help with financial settlements following a relationship breakdown.
