About Joshua

Joshua Briggs is a partner and head of the dispute resolution team based at the Grimsby office.

Promoted to partner in 2017, Joshua has 7 years’ post-qualification experience and 14 years’ further experience (having originally qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive). He was promoted to Head of Dispute Resolution (which encompasses commercial dispute resolution and property litigation) in July 2020, and is currently the youngest head of department within the firm.

He has developed a specialism in dealing with all types of property disputes which in turn has led the firm to new opportunities. The team is renowned for its ability to deal with urgent cases of trespass, utilising a fully leveraged team structure on each job to ensure speed.

Joshua is committed to helping his clients by clearly identifying their goals from the outset and providing suitable technical and commercial advice in order to solve the problem they are faced with. He has led on a number of initiatives which have resulted in his appointment to the panel of MSL Legal Expenses Ltd and undertaking work for Canal and River Trust.

He has significant experience in the following areas:

  • Possession claims under Rent Act and Housing Act

  • The Tenancy Deposit Scheme including recent amendments

  • Recovery of service charge and ground rent arrears including the service of notices under the Law of Property Act

  • Applications under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act

  • Mortgage possession claims

  • Adverse possession

  • Consumer Credit and Sale of Goods legislation including fitness for purpose and satisfactory quality issues

  • Retention of title clauses

  • Partnership disputes
