Jennifer Bowman is a paralegal in the medical negligence team, based at our Lincoln office.
Jennifer specialises in cases of medical negligence, supporting clients with claims including delays in diagnosis, as well as amputations, falls, fatalities and surgical issues.
Jennifer supports the medical negligence team who act on behalf of patients and their families who have suffered as a result of negligent medical treatment.
Her responsibilities include investigating the treatment provided to try and establish whether there has been a breach of duty of care and whether it has caused an otherwise avoidable injury. To do this, she works closely with clients to take initial details, obtain and review their medical records and gather expert evidence. Where appropriate, she is then responsible for outlining the allegations of negligence to the defendant, and where possible, negotiate a settlement.
She has successfully assisted in bringing claims to an end in specialist areas such as dispensing errors, falls, orthopaedic injuries and pressure ulcers.
Surgical errors
In surgical error claims, Jennifer works to prove that there was negligent treatment either before, during or after surgery.
If it can be established that the care was inadequate, Jennifer and the team must then prove that this failure led to avoidable harm. To do this, they analyse the patient’s medical records and obtain expert evidence to evaluate any breaches of duty of care and the consequences of this.
Delayed cancer diagnosis
Jennifer is also involved in cases where there has been a delay in diagnosing and treating cancer. This can often have consequences that have a devastating impact on a patient and their prognosis.
It must be established from the records, and supported by expert evidence, that there was a negligent failure to reach an earlier diagnosis, and that this would have resulted in a more favourable outcome.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology claims
Jennifer works on cases involving concerns over gynaecological treatment. This may be through delays, misdiagnosis, or inappropriate treatment in relation to a woman’s reproductive system. She is also involved in cases where there have been issues during pregnancy and birth, such as haemorrhage resulting from delivery, and other complications.
If it can be established that the care provided fell below a reasonable standard, Jennifer must then prove that this led to harm which would have been avoided with appropriate care and treatment.
Jennifer has a Level 3 diploma in law and practice (ACILEx/CILEx Paralegal) and is currently studying through CILEx Law School to work towards her Level 6 qualification, which she is on track to complete in 2025.
Submit an enquiry and Jennifer will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss your needs.
