Elena Metawea is a solicitor in the family law team based in our Louth office. She also provides support to our Grimsby office.
Elena has been with the firm for over 10 years, starting as a paralegal in the recoveries department where she spent four years, before qualifying as a solicitor in our family law team in November 2017.
She advises clients on all matters relating to family law including divorce, financial disputes, and child matters. She is particularly adept at financial remedy proceedings and child arrangement applications.
Her work often sees her negotiating financial settlements and resolving issues to reach an agreement outside of court via written proposals. Where this is not possible, she advises her clients on issuing applications to the court for financial remedy and follows the court applications from start to an end, supporting her clients.
She regularly instructs joint experts, such as accountants and pension actuaries, to advise on complex matters and negotiate settlement agreements once all the evidence is gathered. Further, she works closely with barristers when they are needed to undertake a hearing or final contested trial.
Divorce and financial remedy proceedings for business owners
Elena is experienced in separation and divorce of business owners. From SMEs to larger companies, she specialises in remedying these complex financial proceedings. Her work has seen her deal with farming divorces through to divorces involving family-owned restaurants.
She frequently makes applications to the court to resolve such matters. As part of the process, she obtains detailed business and property valuation reports, as well as pension reports. She uses her attention to detail to review financial disclosure and scrutinise missing information.
Elena works closely with experts to establish the value of the business and any private pensions. She provides tailored support to each of her clients and advises them on what to do next, digesting complex matters into simple language that her clients will understand.
Elena finds that matters relating to children are sensitive and always urgent. Using empathy and focusing on the child’s best interests, she advises on making child arrangement order applications for parents who are unable to agree on child arrangements or face difficulties in gaining access to see their children.
She deals with all position statements and gathers expert evidence from the likes of Cafcass. Elena represents her clients in court and supports them from the issue of the child arrangements application to end, providing regular updates throughout the case and giving advice on the merit of each matter.
