Renowned commercial property lawyer retires after 37 years' service

Stuart began his legal career with the firm, which was then known as Epton & Co, back in 1978. Over the last 37 years he has established himself as a specialist in commercial property, handling a wide range of property transactions including: residential, commercial and industrial developments, options, leases (landlord and tenant), planning agreements and agricultural and residential property transactions. Stuart will be saying goodbye to a wide portfolio of property developer clients in the region but leaves them in very safe hands.

Peter Hanson, partner and commercial property specialist, joined Wilkin Chapman in 2013 and, since then, has been working alongside Stuart establishing new relationships with clients, as well as familiarising himself with the firm’s existing clients. Peter has over 20 years’ experience and deals with the same type of transactions as Stuart, with a particular focus on investment work (acquisitions and disposals), commercial and residential property development, leasing and asset management and social housing.

In 2014, the commercial property team was further strengthened with the appointment of Jonty Pearson who specialises in all aspects of commercial property and agricultural property matters. In addition, Jonty has extensive experience within the development sector acting for large residential housing developers.

With a wealth of expertise in the department, clients both old and new will continue to receive a first-class legal service.

Commenting on his retirement, Stuart said “Over 37 years I have seen the firm evolve and experience extensive growth and I wish the firm, my colleagues, professional contacts and my clients all the best for the future.”

Chief executive, Julia Whittaker, said, "Stuart has been both an outstanding Partner of Wilkin Chapman LLP and commercial property lawyer. His dedication to client care is exceptional, which is why he is so highly regarded. Stuart is well known in the local community and I am sure that he will be an ambassador for the firm for many years to come. We wish Stuart every happiness in his retirement.”
