Employers are set to get more help on supporting employees who are going through difficulties following a premature birth. The Government, in association with Acas, will be publishing a guide that is intended to give advice on flexible working and on handling requests for additional time off.

Employers do not always know how best to deal with these sorts of situations, and so this guidance should prove useful all round – to employees, too. Business Minister Margot James said:

“While most employers treat their staff with compassion, it’s incredibly important that they know how best to support their staff at what can be a very difficult time for working parents.

New and expectant mothers must feel confident of their rights in the workplace and this new guidance will go some way to offering those reassurances.”
