We understand the challenges of being a local government monitoring officer from personal experience. We can offer definitive guidance and support on conduct issues, either directly to the monitoring officer or directly to members and other officers.
Examples of our work include:
- Investigations into code of conduct complaints
- Investigations for staff disciplinary reasons
- Investigations of grievance or whistleblowing complaints
- Training standards committees on powers, duties and roles
- Training members - including police and crime panel members and officers - on code of conduct, complaint handling and local resolution
- Training on how to investigate
- Mediation of potential conduct complaints
- Local investigation and complaint handling procedures
Following guidance (authored by Jonathan Goolden and Dave Hayward) published in the Police Professional magazine and subsequent requests to provide training, we have developed complaint handling training for police and crime panels and officers working within the office for the police and crime commissioner.
Tailor-made training for police and crime panels
The training can be designed and delivered to meet your organisational needs and training requirements and to maintain the integrity of your policies and procedures. The training can be delivered at your premises or offsite locations.

The trainers are practitioners in their own right and can draw on significant experience in dealing with and advising on matters concerning complaints and conduct issues involving police and crime commissioners.
Example course content:
