Gilbert, a partner at the Lincoln office, is well known throughout the country and internationally for his Courts Martial expertise for all the armed forces and has a long background of experience in all other areas of the criminal and civil law. He is a member of the National Institute of Military Justice, the Association of Military Court Advocates and the Solicitors' Association of Higher Court Advocates.
He regularly appears as Advocate for service personnel before Courts Martial trials throughout the UK and overseas, including Cyprus, Germany and other parts of the world where servicemen are stationed. He also appears as Advocate before the Crown Courts, Courts of Appeal, House of Lords, Privy Council and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and has recently completed a seven month war crimes trial involving the death of an Iraqi prisoner.
Gilbert has a particular interest in Human Rights and has an extensive caseload of Human Rights matters before the Court in Strasbourg and for Judicial Review matters before the Divisional Court in the UK.
Gilbert also has experience of being a past member of the former Lincoln County Borough Council, a past Chairman of the Education Committee, and past Chairman of Lincoln City Football Club.
